According to statistics by CLIA, In 2014, the number of global cruise ships in operation were 410, which provided a total of 467,629 class. Facing the continued rapid growth of cruise tourism, especially for the new cruise tourism market in China, there is still huge potential for the growth of cruise supplies. The demands of cruise ship-building are more and more urgent for cruise lines in China and abroad. Judging from the current orders of major cruise ship-builders all over the world, all cruise ships put into operation by 2020 can provide a total of 520,000 class, compared with the 800,000 class market demand, there are 280,000 passengers capacity gaps need to be make up by newly-built cruise ships. Therefore, major cruise companies around the world may be able to build 79 new luxury cruise ships and 38 new cruise ships will built by the small and medium cruise companies. For ship-building industry, the market demand of 117 potential newly-built cruise ships will bring a value of $52 billion.
Facing the dynamic China cruise market with a broad development space, the development of China cruise ship-building industry has been receiving increased attention in recent years, China National Development and Reform Commission, China Industry and Information Technology Ministry and China National Tourism Administration etc. have promulgated a series of documents to support the development of cruise equipment manufacturing industry. China cruise industry will take a whole industrial chain view, the cruise economy in China will be extended to cruise design and cruise manufacturing, which will help to improve cruise industry’s contribution to local economy. And will pay attention to the introduction of supporting industries and improving service capability, and find a combined and modern way of the development of cruise economy based on cruise ports’ industrial cluster, which have practical significance for the Chinese traditional shipbuilding industry’s the transition to High-end. Under this background, China International Cruise Ship-building Forum & Expo 2019 will be held, co-located with the 7th China International Cruise Summit (Qingdao).
